Vinetur reports that Rioja’s 2026 grape harvest reached approximately 358 million kilograms, marking a significant recovery after two smaller vintages. According to the DOCa Rioja regulatory council, growers harvested nearly 315 million kilograms of red grapes and more than 43 million kilograms of white varieties, with white grape production increasing from approximately 34 million kilograms in 2025. The growing season developed around 12 days earlier than usual, with harvesting largely completed by 22 September following prolonged summer heat and uneven water availability. Although vineyard performance varied according to altitude, soil conditions and irrigation, the overall harvest was characterised by healthy grapes and encouraging quality. The increased production of white varieties is particularly significant as Rioja producers respond to growing consumer demand for white wines.
