France Found Another Million Hectolitres of Wine

The Winemakers’ Show reports that revised French government estimates have increased the expected 2026 wine harvest from approximately 33.8 million to 34.9 million hectolitres. Almost the entire upward revision comes from Languedoc-Roussillon, where projected output has risen to 10.59 million hectolitres, approximately 20% above 2025. Improved late-season rainfall and vineyard practices that protected grapes from excessive heat helped lift yields, despite a reduction in productive vineyard area. However, the additional volume may create further difficulties for a region already struggling with weak demand and surplus production. National output remains 14% below the recent five-year average.
