EU Governments Agree to Retain Wine Sector Support Through 2034

Vinetur reports that European Union member states have agreed to preserve wine sector support within the Common Agricultural Policy framework for 2028 to 2034. The Council adopted its negotiating position on 19 October, retaining mandatory sectoral support for wine under certain circumstances, although exemptions could apply to countries with limited production. The existing framework helps finance vineyard restructuring, winery investment and export activities. However, the overall funding allocation remains unresolved and will form part of negotiations over the EU’s next long-term budget. The decision offers reassurance to European producers facing falling consumption and mounting financial pressure, although the proposed rules are not yet final.
