French Wine Authority Keeps Champagne Appellation Borders Unchanged

Vinetur reports that France’s National Institute of Origin and Quality (INAO) has ended its long-running review of Champagne’s geographical boundaries, leaving the existing appellation unchanged. The decision follows opposition from growers concerned that expanding the production area could undermine Champagne’s reputation, quality standards and commercial value. The review had been under way for more than two decades, with disagreements over vineyard eligibility and potential effects on land prices. The decision provides greater regulatory certainty for producers but leaves unresolved questions about how Champagne should adapt to climate change and evolving market conditions
