The Drinks Business reports that US President Donald Trump has imposed additional 50% tariffs on selected Canadian products, partly in response to Canadian provinces removing American wines, beers and spirits from their controlled retail and distribution systems. The measures take effect on 19 August 2026 and follow an approximately 81% fall in Canadian imports of US alcoholic beverages between March 2025 and February 2026. The dispute places wineries on both sides of the border within a broader trade conflict, with the US administration hoping the duties will persuade Canadian provinces to restore American alcohol listings.
