The Guardian reports that the United Kingdom and European Union have finalised the text of an agreement intended to reduce post-Brexit paperwork and inspections on food and agricultural trade. The arrangements could make it easier for smaller British retailers to resume purchasing specialist European wines that became uneconomical to import following the introduction of additional border requirements. The agreement is expected to take effect during the first quarter of 2028, subject to the necessary legislative changes. However, wine will remain subject to excise-related checks, including on movements into Northern Ireland, meaning the reforms will not eliminate every barrier affecting the wine trade.
